History

Hotel Restaurant De Wolfsberg in Groesbeek has a rich history that dates back to the 19th century. In 1861 the Van Rijnbende family from Amsterdam had a large country house built on the hill known as ‘de Wolfsberg’, surrounded by an extensive estate with avenues of beech trees.

In 1930 the country house was taken over by the J.W. Kraft-Punessen family, who converted the building into a hotel-restaurant. During the Second World War the building sustained considerable damage, but it was restored afterwards. In the 1950s the Kraft family extended the hotel with a new wing and carried out further modernisations in the 1960s.

A special feature on the estate is the former coach house, built around 1860 in chalet style at the request of the Van Rijnbende family. This house, at Knapheideweg 2, is a listed national monument and bears witness to the historic value of the estate.
