Het Groesbeekse Bos

Rolling wooded landscape that merges into the province of Limburg. From hotel De Wolfsberg you step straight into Het Groesbeekse Bos. Along the way you come across old beech avenues, deciduous and coniferous trees, but also heathland and a few fields. The winding paths and differences in height create surprising views towards Nijmegen and the Jansberg. Would you like to see the woods from the air? You can come along for a flight in a glider from Zweefvliegveld Malden, right in the middle of the woods. Check the website of the Nijmeegse Aeroclub for the dates. From the terrace of café Zweef Inn you can enjoy the gliders taking off and landing.

Sint-Jansberg

Walking around here, you realise how beautiful the Netherlands is. Winding paths take you over hills and past meadows. It is uphill and uphill again here, but the effort is rewarded with wonderful nature and a magnificent view. Along the way you see moraine ridges, clear streams and the remains of a Roman villa. And with a bit of luck you will spot a roe deer or come across a flock of sheep. From hotel De Wolfsberg you walk via Klein America, through the Zevendal to the Sint-Jansberg nature reserve. Mookerplas and Maas-Waalkanaal

The water is often overlooked by tourists in Groesbeek. But just 7 minutes away you are in the province of Limburg, standing by the Maas and the Mookerplas. And it is beautiful there! At the Grote Siep you can spend a few hours lazing on the beach, or you hire a sloop and sail past the cows and meadows by the Maas-Waalkanaal. At Pannenkoekhuis Den Tol you can then eat the tastiest pancakes. And the best part is that all this beauty lies less than a 20-minute bike ride from hotel De Wolfsberg. It also combines well with a walk or cycle route around the Sint-Jansberg.

Zevenheuvelenweg

De Vierdaagse, the Zevenheuvelenloop, 7 voor Leven or the Giro d’Italia: all these sporting events include the Zevenheuvelenweg in their route. Whether you walk or cycle, climbing these hills is not easy. But the effort is worth it, because the view over meadows, farms and woods is magnificent. Along the way, do stop at the Canadian War Cemetery, an impressive place where the soldiers are commemorated who died during the Second World War in liberation operations in Groesbeek and the surrounding area.

Nearby you will also find the Afrika Museum, with a large collection of African art in the indoor museum. Outside you will find various homesteads that give an impression of life in Mali, Cameroon and Lesotho, among others.

De Ooijpolder

In the Ooij and Millingerwaard it can be busy on a fine summer’s day. There is a reason for that. Walking and cycling, you find yourself in the loveliest polder landscapes. The area is characterised by clay pits, marshes and river dunes, and nature lovers can enjoy themselves to the full. Konik horses, large geese, beavers and Galloway cattle graze here in the floodplains of the Waal. And the nice thing is that you walk straight into the centre of Nijmegen. Or you stop at Oortjeshekken, an institution among walkers and cyclists, for a slice of cake and a cup of coffee.

Nederlands Wijnbouwcentrum and a wine walk

Groesbeek is the wine village of the Netherlands! Thanks to the hills and the special soil type, the area is suitable for viticulture. As many as 6 professional vineyards covering more than 30 hectares have gathered in the village. Some vineyards are freely accessible, others have fixed opening hours. The best place to start is the Nederlands Wijnbouwcentrum, with a tasting of Groesbeek wines. After that you hop on your bike or take a walk past the vineyards in the municipality.
