In 1861 the Van Rijnbende family from Amsterdam had a large country house built on the hill known as ‘de Wolfsberg’, surrounded by an extensive estate with avenues of beech trees.<\/strong><\/em><\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]In 1930 the country house<\/a><\/span><\/span> was taken over by the J.W. Kraft-Punessen family, who converted the building into a hotel-restaurant. During the Second World War the building sustained considerable damage, but it was restored afterwards. In the 1950s the Kraft family extended the hotel with a new wing and carried out further modernisations in the 1960s.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]A special feature on the estate is the former coach house<\/a><\/span><\/span>, built around 1860 in chalet style at the request of the Van Rijnbende family. This house, at Knapheideweg 2, is a listed national monument and bears witness to the historic value of the estate.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]For an in-depth insight into the history and heritage of De Wolfsberg and the surrounding estates, the cultural-historical walk<\/a><\/span><\/span> “Groesbeek, een cultuurhistorische wandeling” comes highly recommended. This route takes you past a variety of historic features and tells the story of the centuries-old history of the woodlands around Groesbeek.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Today De Wolfsberg still operates as a hotel-restaurant<\/a><\/span><\/span> and offers visitors the chance to enjoy both the historic ambiance and the surrounding natural beauty.
